Angus Laing has been hired as the new Assistant Director of Ice and Programming at Sidner Ice Arena.

Laing’s primary job will be to run the rink Thursday through Monday. However, he will also be working on a creative plan to establish new programs, run camps and offer clinics as well. He has already started helping out with the Intro to Hockey Program and on the ice for the Mites.

“Although hockey isn't the most popular sport in Scotland, I have lived and breathed the game since a young child,” Laing said. “Until recently, I fed on the adrenaline and competition of stopping pucks; playing (goalie) competitively throughout my college career in the United States and representing my country on the international stage.”

Laing completed his Masters Degree at East Texas Baptist University after getting his undergrad degree from Midland University where he was a goaltender from 2019-2021. He said he is excited to get started.

“Throughout my time at Midland University, completing my undergrad, it was clear there was potential to grow hockey in Fremont,” Laing said. “I am excited to bring the lessons hockey has taught me to the Sidner Ice family and be the pivotal point for Fremont in the hockey community.”
