Head Coach: Jeff Hoggan
Our philosophy:
Midwest's AA Warbirds prides itself on being a drama-free, politics-free organization that prioritizes cost-effective player development. Our NHL-experienced coaching staff has a proven record in developing players to their full potential, fostering a growth mindset, and maintaining a thriving team environment.
Our goals:
Make hockey enjoyable, affordable, and accessible to players who are still growing, developing and exploring their potential. The talented core of returning players will continue to pursue Silversticks Canada qualification and a U.S. AA National title. The reduced 6-7 tournament schedule helps minimize travel expenses and maintain a competitive edge through practice weekend team skates to help with travel logistic concerns. A smaller roster of 15 players ensures ample playing time and experience in various game situations, focusing on developing better athletes, hockey players, and leaders.
Our commitment:
1) Execute a program designed to develop individual skills and overall team execution through game-relevant coaching from experienced NHL professionals.
2) Use a cost-conscious approach to maximizing return on investment, coupled with a balanced schedule offering maximum development, competitive play, and exposure for those who believe in potential at this age. Invest in your future now and save on costs when it truly matters.
3) Operate under consistent scheduling, world-class communication, and organized executive-level team management.
Coach Jeff Hoggan began his hockey-playing career in Hope, British Columbia, Canada, at an early age. He was recruited to play in Omaha for the UNO Mavericks from 1998 through 2002 and was one of the few All-American award recipients to play for the Mavericks and, ultimately, the first player from UNO to play in the NHL.
Jeff went on to play in over 100 NHL games for St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, and Phoenix Coyotes. During his over 15 years of professional hockey from 2002-2017, Jeff was in a Captaincy role for 5 different NHL organizations, mentoring top NHL prospects toward their dream of playing at the highest level. His leadership experience includes guiding notable players such as Kyle Turris, Michael Boedker, Phil Kessel, and David Krecji. As Captain of the 2013 AHL Champion Grand Rapids Griffins, he led many future Detroit Red Wings, such as Tomas Tatar, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Gustav Nypuist.
He is a two-time Calder Cup Champion, selected as Captain for the 2016 AHL All-Star Game, and in 2015 received the AHL Fred T. Hunt Memorial Trophy for player best-exemplifying sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to hockey. He was further inducted into the Omaha Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
