Twenty-four teams participated from the Fremont Ice Association and Omaha Hockey Club in the Fremont Freeze Oct. 27-29. Fremont hosted 26 of the 34 games.
Friday, all four Fremont house teams (10U Black, 10U White, Peewee and Bantam) played. Several games went to shootouts as the competition and parity was palatable.
Three of the four Fremont teams reached the finals, highlighted by an Audrey Krusic game-winning goal with less than a second left Saturday night to send the peewees into the final.
Squirt White would win both their second and third games in a shootout to claim the consolation championship while Squirt Black would win a barn burner 8-6 in their final that featured a successful penalty shot goal by Van Stroud.
The bantams also went to two shootouts and split with Omaha's Team Hill to lose the final in a heartbreaker 4-3. The peewees finished the day with a 2-1 championship win as Beau Behrens scored the game winner late and Rosario Caniglia and Ethan Casarotto split duties in net for the win.
Thanks to many many volunteers the weekend was successful and talks of hosting this annual preseason tournament in the future have begun!
