The Second Annual Fremont House/C Freeze took place Oct. 25-27 with dozens of teams and hundreds of visitors flocking to Fremont - eating at restaurants and gassing up before heading back to Omaha.
Now, for the first time, additional weekends beyond regular league play are filling up thanks to the work of Fremont Ice Association teams and rink partner, SETT LLC, pursuing and establishing full weekends of hockey action.
The upcoming Nov. 9 weekend for example, features six associations from three different cities - Omaha, Kansas City and Sioux Falls - meeting up for dozens of games from 10U to 14U levels.
The teams visiting stay and frequent Fremont establishments, including hotels, restaurants and more, during the weekend, bringing in new revenue and visitors to the town.
At least seven more weekends, plus High School Travel games, will bring in an estimated 100+ teams and several hundreds of visitors resulting in thousands of dollars for Dodge County and Fremont Area businesses. This is addition to both Midland University Men's and Women's Hockey teams who host several outside teams who stay overnight in the community as well.
"We're all here to help kids enjoy skating and playing hockey first and foremost," said SETT LLC owner Kent Johnson, who also coaches a Fremont Flyers team. "But the fact it also helps the community is why I also did this. An absolute win-win for everyone at the end of the day. It makes the hard work this summer really come full circle."
