The Fremont Ice Association announced its first-ever DOWN ON THE FARM League featuring Fremont Flyers House and Select players age 8, 9 and 10 (2015-17 birth years) participating in a 13-game full-ice FUN season at Sidner Ice Arena.
"Omaha reached out to us and said that we are unique to their house teams, in that so many of our kids percentage-wise get the opportunity to be on the ice more, like select and additional skills time," said House Director Jason Buzzell. "Due to our growth, we did the math, and said, 'that's OK, it looks like we have enough to try our own league this year.'"
All players will be placed on four teams and play one-hour stop time games on select Sundays throughout the year from Nov. 2-Feb. 22. Some days will include two games for some teams.
"We also like to at times have the kids do a couple games back-to-back similar to Select and Travel teams. Some folks are travelling in from a distance such as West Point, Mead or parts of Sarpy County, so spending a couple hours at the rink on a Sunday is actually really fun," he said. "That time between games with their coach and teammates is invaluable."
Dates include: Nov. 2, 9 and 23. Dec. 21 and 28. Jan. 18. Feb. 1, 15 and 22.
As for Peewees and Bantams, peewees have already secured some friendly games with neighboring associations and teams as the schedule solidifies, and Bantam will just have Gold and Silver options this season with both playing Travel AA/A and Select B/Select schedules with no house league games anyway, similar to last season.
