Season Outlook

Flyers PW B Parent Meeting

Season outlook-

We are excited about the PW B team this season, the Flyers hockey program is making a concerted effort to increase the level of play for our travel teams. The tournaments we have signed up for are a mix between strong B tournaments and A tournaments. We do not want to win every game, we want to challenge the kids and put them up against some strong teams to challenge them.

Practice Schedule-

Tuesday- 5:45- 6:45 PM Motto- On Ice (starting 10/6)

Wednesday- 8:15- 9:15 PM Fremont- On Ice (starting 9/30)

Thursday- 6:30- 7:30 Fremont, Sidner- On Ice- Split with PW A (10/1)

Explain MHL-

This season we will participate in the Midwest affiliate’s MHL, this is the travel league created within the Midwest Hockey Association. All associations within the Midwest can participate, this will help during Covid-19 to secure games against strong competition within our affiliate. – The way it works is we will play 12 “regular season” games against at least 4 different associations, these games will go towards the MHL standings. Games are weighted based on who we play and the results of the game to determine seeding for the MHL Finals in Des Moines on March 12-14.

Our season Schedule:

Nov-14- Fremont Flyers PW Tourney

Nov- 27-29- Brookings PW tourney

Dec 4-6- Matt Thurber Memorial

Jan- 8-10 -Faribault- Shattuck

Jan- 29-30 -Morehead MN

Feb-  13-15- St. Louis- Presidents Cup

Mar- 6-8- OHC Stampede

Mar- 12-14- Des Moines- MHL Finals

Team Manager:

Holly Roberts has stepped up to help out this season as our team manager. A lot of the communication will come through Holly this season, we are lucky to have her help!

Also, we will need team volunteers. I would ask that we have a couple Locker Room monitors. We need to have a parent outside the locker room for each practice and game to periodically check on the players to stay safe sport compliant. To become a Locker Room monitor email me and let me know that you are interested and I will walk you through the steps. You will have to complete Safe Sport Screening and background check.

As many of you may or may not be aware, on January 28th the USA Hockey Congress approved legislation regarding the mandatory use of neck laceration protection for all players under the age of 18 beginning August 1, 2024.  Neck laceration protection (otherwise known as "neck guards") have long been discussed, but in recent months, an increase in injuries has pushed urgency on the issue.  And while neck guards have always been strongly encouraged, this marks a significant change in mandatory equipment rules.

Fremont Flyers Hockey is governed by the rules and regulations of USA Hockey and every Fremont Flyers Hockey player under the age of 18 will, as of August 1, 2024, be required to wear neck guards at practice and in all games and tournaments, regardless of whether or not that tournament is a part of USA Hockey.  We realize this may generate many questions, many of which can be answered here on the USA Hockey FAQ page  (Player Safety & Health (usahockey.com).  Neck guards will continue to be strongly encouraged for players over 18 years of age but not mandated at this time.

Fremont Flyers Hockey wholeheartedly supports this rule change and wants to make it very clear in doing so, player safety is paramount to our organization.  After reviewing the FAQ page, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to coaches, team managers or program directors.

Thank you for your continued support in our efforts to make our players as safe as possible as they participate and enjoy the sport of hockey.
