The Fremont Flyers Hockey program is pleased to announce the appointment of Jan Dam as the new head coach for the Fremont Flyers High School Travel Team for the 21-22 season.

Jan Dam brings an extensive coaching career and high level playing experience to the program.  Most recently Dam has served as the Graduate Assistant for the Midland Men’s Hockey team.  He also served as the Director of Player Development for the Flyers for the last several years.  Jan has been involved in many aspects of coaching throughout the program and is excited to add the title of Head Coach for the Flyers HS Travel program.

“We’re very excited that Jan has accepted the position of HS Travel Head Coach for next season,” said Dan O’Malley, president of the Fremont Ice Association.  “We know that he is going to continue to take the program in the direction we expect it to go and make the HS Travel program the pinnacle of our program.  He is a proven winner and I know he will be an excellent role model for our athletes, parents and community.”

Besides having an extensive knowledge of hockey, Dam also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from UNO in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.  He also is the founder of Surge Sports Advising, a company that specializes in helping athletes earn and obtain scholarships to play sports at the highest level possible.  “Jan’s knowledge and understanding of exercise science has allowed him to break down and teach skating and edgework to our young athletes at a level that is unparalleled in this area.  This coupled with his understanding of the game made him a top level candidate for this position,” said Garrett Poland, Hockey Director for the Fremont Flyers.  He continued, “We are excited to have Jan work with the top players in our association, and his connections with athlete placement will help these athletes achieve the best support possible for their playing carriers.”

Jan is a native of the Czech Republic where he played at the highest level before coming to the US to play for the El Paso Rhinos in the WSHL.  After his career with the Rhinos, Jan helped found and develop the UTEP Miners Collegiate Hockey Program in El Paso.  Jan also helped coach several teams for the El Paso Youth Hockey Association before moving to Omaha and accepting a position with the Fremont Flyers in 2017 while enrolling in college at UNO.

“I look forward to growing and developing the athletes at the highest point in our program, but I also enjoy working with all levels and ages of players for the Fremont Flyers and will still be helping out with the overall athlete development of all of the players in our program,” Jan commented.  “It has been a joy getting to know each and every player within the program and I look forward to building new and lasting relationships with the families in our program.

Jan officially accepted the position on April 15 of this year and has already begun laying the groundwork for the season.  Tryouts for the 21-22 HS Travel program will be announced soon.  If you are interested in trying out or learning more about the program, please feel free to email Coach Jan Dam – jan@surgesportsadvising.com  or you can call the Sidner Ice Arena @ 402-753-0200.
